Today’s Topic: The Art Of Acceptance

I like to consider myself accepting. Yet I would say my number one source of anxiety, is when things don’t go the way I thought (or was told) it would.

It’s not that I am a control freak, more so having order allows me to keep calm and carry on. Ya feel me?

We all have an idea, even expectation of how any given situation should turn out. Yet sometimes that good ol’ universe flips us upside down, giving us everything but what we expected.

No one likes to feel like they are on a train that has derailed… but the real truth is, we are ALL on a train that doesn’t have a rail system.

Life is unpredictable.

I am not sure if a planet is in reverse, but I have been eating spoonfuls of mysterious plot twisting mush. Without getting into too much detail… let me just say I could make a lot of lemonade.

I want you take a particular situation that isn’t working out. Maybe someone sold you empty promises, maybe your partner didn’t hold up their end of the deal, maybe work isn’t working…

Close your eyes, place your hand over your heart, take a few deep breaths, and repeat after me:

“I can’t control the people in my life, nor the situations.”

“Everything will work out as it should, and I trust this very much.”

“Life is too short to laser focus on this small incident.”

“I pray for the courage to change what I can, and the wisdom to let go of that which I cannot.”

Take a few more deep breaths. If emotions come up, let them out. Sometimes we really put our heart into something, and the tragedy of it not “working out” can feel devastating.

I often say, ‘hope’ is the greatest disease of our humanness. We hope for a different situation, heck we try to control it fighting the current with all we got… but the best thing you can do, is ride the wave surrendering fully to the experience.  It might seem counterintuitive, but it’s the healthiest thing you can do!

You might not see it now, but when things don’t work out… it actually is working out. It just doesn’t look that way in the moment.
